For Leaders & Followers
The Lápiz (Spanish for "pencil") is a graceful and fluid embellishment in Argentine tango, where the dancer traces elegant circular or oval patterns on the floor with the free leg, as if sketching with an invisible pencil.
For leaders, the Lápiz is a refined way to add musicality and artistry, often executed during slow moments, such as a pause or a suspension, seamlessly blending into the dance’s rhythm. A well-controlled Lápiz enhances the flow of movement and deepens the connection with the follower.
For followers, subtle foot tracings can mirror the leader’s energy, adding a touch of personal expression without disrupting the lead. The Lápiz for followers is often softer, a delicate adornment that enhances the elegance of the embrace.
This beautiful figure embodies the essence of tango—fluidity, precision, and an intimate dialogue between two dancers.

For Leaders & Followers
The Sacada (from the Spanish sacar, meaning “to take out”) is a dynamic movement in Argentine tango where one dancer steps into the other’s space, subtly displacing their leg and creating a fluid, intertwined motion.
For leaders, giving a Sacada requires precise timing and confident placement, stepping into the follower’s path to create a natural yet expressive displacement. It adds energy and depth to the dance, seamlessly blending with turns and changes in direction.
For followers, receiving a Sacada means maintaining balance and responsiveness, allowing the movement to flow effortlessly without resistance. Followers can also initiate Sacadas, stepping into the leader’s space with controlled elegance, transforming the energy of the dance into a shared, dynamic expression.
Whether giving or receiving, Sacadas bring a sense of playfulness and connection, embodying the push-and-pull of tango’s intricate dialogue.

For the social dance floor
Colgadas and Volcadas are bold off-axis movements in Argentine tango that play with balance and trust between partners.
In a Colgada (“hanging”), both dancers lean outward, maintaining connection through counterbalance. The leader initiates the suspension, and the follower engages the core to extend gracefully into the lean, creating a floating sensation.
In a Volcada (“tilting”), the follower leans inward toward the leader, who provides support while guiding the movement. The follower’s free leg often sweeps in a soft, suspended motion, adding fluidity and elegance.
Both figures require deep trust, precise control, and a strong embrace, transforming the dance into a mesmerizing interplay of tension and release.
